It depends on the fault. A board or a fan, often yes; a compressor, or an old gas like R22, usually means replacing the unit is better value.
Why is my air conditioner not cooling?
Most often it's dirty filters and coil, low gas from a leak, or the outdoor fan failing. Clean the filters first; if nothing changes, send us a video of the outdoor unit running and we'll point you in the right direction.
